Midwest Meet of Champions

The top three male and the top three female vaulters will be selected to compete in the only Elite Senior Athlete Track Meet in the country. Athletes will be selected after the State Meet with consideration of performances at that meet as well as throughout the season. Our goal is to recruit the best senior pole vault athletes in Michigan and we hope that you are interested in representing the State in this prestigious event. We are excited about this year’s meet, as it is the third of a four year run in Michigan. It will be held at Jackson High School’s Withington Stadium - an impressive 9-lane facility.

The MMC is held on the second Saturday of June each year and picks three senior athletes from Michigan, Indiana and Ohio in a team-based competition to crown the Midwestern Champion. A glance at the record boards and top performance lists will find many collegiate All-Americans as well as several Olympians. This meet is the single greatest collection of track and field athletes in the same venue each year.

Athletes and Staff will report to Spring Arbor University at noon on Saturday, June 14, 2008, to check in with their teams and pick up warm-ups, uniforms, lodging assignments, etc. A brief ‘get to know each other’ practice is followed by a banquet, with the meet being held on the following day.

The Michigan Pole Vault Squad is comprised of the top three female graduating seniors and the top three male graduating seniors, for a team of six athletes.

The Pole Vault will be coached by Jerry Sessions, who will be closely monitoring the performances of the top athletes via the Internet and other news sources. Our final team selections will be made on the Sunday immediately following the MHSAA Individual State Championship Meet. Coach Sessions will personally contact the athletes no later than early Sunday afternoon to confirm final commitments. If you feel that you (or one of your athletes) may be considered for selection, please keep June 14th `open` of ACT tests, graduation open houses, Baccalaureate, Commencement, etc.
